ICC World Cup 2023: A Remarkable Start to the World Cup, Bangladesh Stuns Afghanistan, Defying the Odds

ICC World Cup 2023: Bangladesh’s second-class cricket team won the Asian Games 2023 against Pakistan and snatched the bronze medal. On the other hand, on the same day, the tigers’ main team Shakib Al Hasan led the team to start this year’s World Cup against Afghanistan (Bangladesh vs Afghanistan Match). Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Bangladesh Cricket Team (BCB) coach Chandika Hathurusingha had given up before going to play in Rati. He claimed that Bangladesh would play in the semi-finals. But playing in India, they had to face defeat in two warm-up matches. So no one gave too much importance to the Bangladesh coach’s statement before the Bangladesh Cricket Team took on Afghanistan. But Mehidy Hasan Miraz did a great job and turned the focus on himself.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and elected to field first. Afghanistan’s two openers did not start badly. But in the second ball of the ninth over, they went on the back foot as soon as they lost their first wicket with a personal score of 47 runs. Bangladesh’s bowlers did not miss the opportunity to sit for the first time in the match.

Afghanistan’s innings were over soon after. They were all out for his only 156 runs in less than 38 overs. Apart from Afghan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (47), who played for KKR, no one looked like they were a top-order team at the moment.

Captain Shakib Al Hasan bowled brilliantly for Bangladesh today. He bowled eight overs and took three crucial wickets at the cost of just 30 runs. But Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled even better. Not only that, when Bangladesh lost 2 wickets in 7 overs while chasing a small target, he also stood up with the bat. Mehidy (57, 9-3-25-3) was also the man of the match for his outstanding all-round performance. Apart from this, Nazmul Hasan, who was in great form, played a great innings of 59 runs despite being slow.

With this, Bangladesh started their campaign with a win in their first match in the three consecutive ODI World Cups. It proved once again how dangerous their spinners are when they are in rhythm. But the discomfort with the easy collapse of the top order did not go away in their XI. The entire tournament will depend on How Bangladesh’s batting performs on Shanto, Miraz, and Shakib.
