Asia Cup 2023, IND vs NEP: In the fifth match of the Asia Cup 2023, India and neighbouring Nepal (India vs Nepal) met today. Team India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat. He won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Blue Brigade finished with a win in a rain-affected match. The Indian team defeated Nepal by 10 wickets to qualify for the Asia Cup Super Four stage today. India will face arch-rivals Pakistan again on Sunday.
Nepal came out to bat first and scored 230 runs on the scoreboard. Nepal’s batsman continued to struggle with their teeth in front of a strong Indian bowling line-up. Kushal Virtel and Asif Sheikh shared a 65-run partnership for Nepal. While Vertell lost 38 wickets, Asif Sheikh scored 58 runs. Nepal then lost three wickets in the spell of Ravindra Jadeja.
But even then, Nepal’s middle order did not stop. From that moment, Gulshan Jha and Deepender Singh took the match forward. 23 runs came from Gulsan’s bat and Deependra’s individual score was 29. Then came Sompal Kami, who stood till the end and scored a 56-ball 48. Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja were the top wicket-takers for India with the ball today, both taking three wickets each today.
India needed 231 runs to win the match. Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill came to the opening to chase the target. Although they failed against Pakistan last year, the pair got off to a great start with the bat today. After the completion of two overs, heavy rain started. Due to the delay in stopping, the umpires present on the field decided to play the match in 23 overs according to duckworth lewis formula (DLS method). The target was 145 runs. India’s regular opening pair did not even think back once while chasing it. Regardless of Nepal’s bowling line-up, Rohit scored 74 off 59 balls, while Gill’s individual score was 67 off 62 balls. Rohit’s team made the match their name in 20.1 overs.
The Indian team did not start the Asia Cup as expected. Team India did not win the first match of the group against Pakistan. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had to be content with sharing the points as the game was washed out due to rain. The pressure on India increased as arch-rivals Pakistan made it to the Super Four with three points. They had to win against Nepal today to make it to the last four. In each of the last five matches at the Pallekele Stadium, the toss-winning captain chose to bat first. However, rohit chose to bowl first after the toss coin fell in favour in the ‘must win’ match today. He wanted to test the team’s bowlers.

Coach Dravid’s performance in the Bumrah-less Indian bowling against Nepal could be a slap in the face. The Indian fielders took the catch early. After that, Kusal Bhurtle and Asif Sheikh were seen batting very fluently against Siraj-Shami. Apart from the two openers, Sompal Kami and Gulshan Jha have caught the eye. Nepal’s batsmen added 230 runs to the scoreboard in 48.1 overs against India. Like the previous day, rain hampered the second innings. The match resumed after a break of about an hour. The Duckworth-Lewis rule reduced the target for India to 145 runs. With 23 overs in hand, Rohit-Shubman’s partnership gave India victory in 20.1 overs.
